Born in 1992, in Portugal, into a family of Brazilian musicians, Mara Lobo started her cello studies at four years old, under Jaroslav Mikuš. At the age of 17, she was admitted to the class of Stefan Popov at the Guildhall School of Music & Drama in London. After being awarded a full scholarship from the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation in Lisbon, she has, since 2015, been continuing her studies with Martin Ostertag and at the Hochschule für Musik Karlsruhe. Mara Lobo regularly attends masterclasses with such artists like Wolfgang Boettcher, Karine Georgian, Antonio Meneses, Claudio Bohórquez, Daniel Grosgurin, Natalia Gutman, Amit Peled, and Christophe Coin, among others. A 1st-Prize winner of several cello competitions, Mara has performed as a soloist and chamber musician in Portugal, Germany, France, the UK, Czech Republic, Lithuania, and Brazil, including live recordings for the German radio station SWR2 and the Brazilian Rádio MEC.
