Yiwei Gu was born in Shanghai, and began his musical journey at the age of five with Hongjuan Shen and Weiqiang Yue. At the age of nine he was admitted into the prestigious Middle School of the Shanghai Conservatory of Music, where he studied with his teacher Qingling Zhu for nearly three years. Later, at age of twelve, he moved on to the next stage and continued his studies under the guidance of prof. Qing Zheng. Yiwei Gu has won numerous high-profile awards in both national and international violin competitions, for instance, in 2017, he won 1st prize at the AIM Competition for Kids in Chamber Music, in Beijing, and in 2019, he was awarded 4th prize at the Salzburg International Mozart Chamber Music Competition held in Tokyo, Japan. In 2022, he won 1st prize at the III National Youth Violin Concerto Competition in Qingdao, China. In 2024, he newly won 3rd prize and the Freunde Junger Musicker Berlin Prize at the International Max Rostal Violin Competition. In 2023, at the age of 17, Yiwei Gu began his bachelor studies at the Hanns Eisler University of Music Berlin, majoring in violin, under the tutelage of prof. Kolja Blacher. In 2024, he earned two significant invitations – one to the Seiji Ozawa International Academy, and another to the Villars International Academy.
