Maria Sotriffer was born in Vienna, into a musical family, and received first violin lessons from her mother at the age of two. At the age of four, she was the youngest student ever to be admitted to the University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna, in Eugenia Polatschek's class. Later she studied with Gerhard Schulz and Albena Danailova. Since 2022, she is in the class of Svetlana Makarova at the Haute Ecole de Musique in Lausanne, where after finishing her Master of Concert Performance she now takes part in the Soloist Master programme. As a soloist, Maria Sotriffer has worked with the Janáček Philharmonic Orchestra in Ostrava, Camerata Musica Wien, Ensemble "Neue Streicher", Beethoven Philharmonic Orchestra in Baden, Camerata Medica Wien, among the others. She has won prizes at numerous national and international competitions, such as the Ysaÿe International Music Competition in Liege, Pörtschach International Johannes Brahms Competition, London International Concerto Competition, XII International Competition for Young Musicians "Città di Massa", Mimas Music Festival-Competition, Geneva Junior Music Competition, and the XX Concorso internazionale di esecuzione musicale in Padova.
