California native Madeleine Lew is a rising soprano currently pursuing an Artist Diploma at Boston University’s Opera Institute. Madeleine is a winner of the Boston District in the 2023 Metropolitan Opera Laffont Competition. This season she portrays the title role of Beatriz in Catan’s La Hija de Rappaccini, Amy in Little Women, and Morgana in Alcina. This spring, Madeleine received her Master of Music from the University of Southern California. She is a graduate of the San Francisco Conservatory, receiving her Bachelor of Music in 2019. Madeleine made her European debut at the Sibelius Academy in Helsinki, Finland with USC in March 2022, creating the role of the Bear at the world premiere of Uljas Pulkiss’s opera All the Truths We Cannot See, later performing in its American premiere. Madeleine is a prizewinner of the 2019 East Bay Opera League Competition, 2022 quarter- finalist of the Young Concert Artists competition, and a 2020 semi-finalist, and the 2019 Bell Encouragement Award winner of the James Toland Vocal Arts competition.
