Augustas Gocentas was born in Vilnius in 1997. He studied at the National M. K. Čiurlionis School of Art, in the cello class, under the teacher R. Kalnėnaitė. A student of the Sibelius Academy in Finland under Martti Rousi since 2016, Augustas is a constant participant of national and international competitions and has won first prizes at the National Jonas Urba String competition in 2011, the International chamber ensemble competition With Music through Europe in 2012, and the international competition Gradus ad Parnasum. In 2009, the jury of the international competition Young Musician awarded the cellist with a special prize for having a unique style. In 2014, at the national forum Ars Lituanica, Augustas won the grand prize and in 2015 in the Kaunas Sonorum competition – the Grand Prix. Augustas has soloed with the Lithuanian National Symphony Orchestra, Lithuanian Chamber Orchestra, and the St. Cristopher Chamber orchestra and is also a regular participant of various festivals and masterclasses. For a year he was sponsored by the Rostropovich Foundation, later – by the Saulius Karosas foundation.
